Expanding reach to potential candidates

Leidos – a science and technology solutions leader working to address some of the world’s toughest challenges in defense, intelligence, security and civil and healthcare markets – employs 33,000 people globally. They focus on hiring people that help drive their company mission: to create user-centric technology that transforms organizational ideas into action. Steve Crumley, Principal Talent Acquisition Analyst, is at the forefront of helping bring Leidos’ mission to life.

Crumley, responsible for digital job marketing and related systems support needed a flexible advertising solution that would build a steady pipeline of candidates across all his jobs and markets, to fill thousands of jobs annually. In order to meet these demands, Crumley wanted to build consistent inbound candidate interest, that would allow him to focus on building a greater digital recruitment advertising strategy. Crumley turned to Appcast – a programmatic recruitment advertising tool – that would place Leidos’ job ads in front of the right candidates, at the right time, and deliver the necessary volume to support the company’s hiring efforts.

Recruiting cleared professionals with a targeted recruitment strategy

While Crumley needed to source candidates for all roles from entry-level to highly specialized, his biggest struggle was continually found in clearance roles: jobs that require candidates to be cleared and determined by the United States government as a person that is eligible to access classified information.

“Appcast helps by making sure our job ads are in the right place throughout the web,” Crumley stated. “The network of sites ensures that even our hardest-to-fill clearance jobs – even some top-secret positions – are reaching qualified talent, compared to more traditional job advertising sources in the market.”

With Appcast, Crumley created customized job advertising campaigns to elevate his clearance roles and target candidates by specific job or market. While Crumley’s other job advertising sources proved difficult to narrow down spend and target candidates with a level of specificity that he needed, Appcast let him carefully manage his budget. In addition to the effective campaign management tools, Crumley was able to put a value on a specific type of job with Appcast advanced reporting. The pay-per-applicant pricing model aligned his budget with definitive returns – candidates that he could bring in to interview (his consistently-used quality benchmark).

Insight-driven advertising delivers lower CPA for clearance jobs

A marketing scientist who utilizes Appcast’s performance data to the max, Crumley found the pricing and quantity sweet spot that delivered quality applicants for his hard-to-fill roles. While he continues to be attentive to spend and adjusts his cost-per-applicant bidding strategy depending on the difficulty of the roles he’s looking to fill, Appcast has consistently delivered for Leidos.

Leidos has found talent for a lower cost-per-applicant (CPA) with Appcast Exchange than industry-leading clearance job boards. Within 6 months of partnering with Appcast, the Leidos team had interviewed over 100 candidates for clearance jobs. From those interviews, all hires made from Appcast candidates required some sort of secret or top-secret experience. “The talent that Appcast is able to find for us is above and beyond,” Crumley said. “I’m consistently pleased with the quality and price-point of the candidates they deliver.”
