During Appcast’s recent webinar, Hiring Through Change: How TA Leaders Use the Right Tools to Win in Today’s Labor Market, attendees asked thoughtful questions about the future of talent acquisition, including the growing role of AI in recruiting, how to evaluate candidates effectively, and the strategies leading talent acquisition teams are using to improve hiring outcomes. Below is a recap of some of the key questions and insights shared during the discussion.

Q: How are job seekers using AI in their job search?

A: Job seekers are no longer just searching for jobs on search engines; they are relying on AI tools to guide their career decisions.  Questions are answered tailored to the job seeker’s priorities. Instead of spending hours reviewing websites and job boards, candidates ask tools like ChatGPT or Gemini question like, “What is it like to work at Company X?” or “Which employer is better for flexibility?”

These tools summarize information from multiple sources, compare options, and provide recommendations, making the job search more personalized and efficient.

Q: How can recruiters tell if a candidate’s skills and experience are genuine in an AI-driven hiring environment?

A: To know if a candidate it a good fit for your open role, it really comes down to getting to know the person beyond the resume. As always, the best approach is to ask candidates about specific projects, challenges they’ve faced, and results they’ve achieved. The more detailed and real-world the conversation gets, the easier it is to understand what the candidate knows and can do. AI can help someone prepare for an interview, but it can’t replace genuine experience or human connection.

Q: What are the most efficient HR teams doing differently to improve their recruiting and hiring outcomes?

A: The most successful HR teams are constantly looking for ways to improve the candidate experience instead of relying on processes that have always been in place. They test their own application journey, pay attention to where candidates drop off and interview no-shows. They’re also using AI to become more efficient while making sure candidates stay engaged through regular communication, especially between accepting an offer and starting the job.

Q: Why is salary transparency important in the hiring process?

A: Salary transparency helps everyone. When candidates know the pay range upfront, they can quickly decide whether a role aligns with their expectations. This saves time for both recruiters and applicants as it reduces mismatched applications and creates a more positive candidate experience. Transparency early in the process also helps build trust in the organization.

Q: What role does transparency play when organizations use AI?

A: Transparency is becoming increasingly important. Organizations that openly communicate how they’re using AI tend to see greater trust and adoption of those tools. When candidates and employees understand how AI is being used and where humans remain involved in decision-making, they’re more likely to feel comfortable with the technology and the organization as a whole. The most successful approach is combining AI’s efficiency with human judgment throughout the hiring process.
